Sharing the happiness that comes in the form of Coal + Co

This morning I would like to introduce you to a very dear and talented friend of mine - Danette Mulder a jewelry designer from South Africa, currently resigning in Sydney, Australia. A girl whom I miss dearly and often think of when I wear one of my many Coal + Co jewelry pieces.

Coal + Co is a hand made accessory line that was started in Johannesburg in 2012, almost accidentally when Danette was between living in Jozi and moving to Sydney and needed an income. She designed and hand made an easy to wear range and hosted a pop up shop with a few friends. This is here where things worked out quite well and she is still designing and making jewelry - and delivering quite frequently to South Africa - happy me!

As Danette will tell you, the name Coal + Co originated from growing up in a coal mine town, where "fun resources" were limited. But she believes that it is exactly this limited exposure that fueled her creativity and shaped her as an individual. "Coal + Co celebrates my roots and all that went with it".

Here are a few pictures from the latest Coal + Co catalogue, look at these beauties:

As mentioned I have quite the Coal + Co collection already, but I get childishly excited every time that I receive a package from Danette and the happiness to wear something handmade, precious and beautiful NEVER wears off! I am actually expecting a pair of custom designed earrings from her soon and can hardly wait! Will share these once I have them in hand. Like I said, sharing the happiness that comes in the form of Coal + Co is a good thing.

You can follow her on Instagram or see her Facebook page here.

Have a good week lovelies.

What would you be confessing?

If you could anonymously make your best kept secret public, would you do it? A public art project by American artist Candy Chang, invites people to anonymously share their confessions and see the confessions of people around them in the heart of the Las Vegas strip.

I think this is a rather bold public exhibition without the risk of being exposed...

Good day dear readers! Its been a few days since my last post. I am currently on a short break in the beautiful Western Cape province and I am enjoying a few days off from my desk and my everyday responsibilities back home.

I will be offline for another week or so, so I am not sure when my next post will be, but I thought I'd pop in and say hi. I hope you are all well and loving life!

I thought I'd post some wise words for those in need of inspiration on this Wednesday evening:

DIY Thursday_ Homemade shick

I really like this project and I think it looks great too!

Perhaps you want to try it:

Step 1: Cut a strip from the drop cloth that measures 14¼"W × 8'1¼"L; press it to iron out any wrinkles. To hem all four edges: Turn each under ⅝"; press, then stitch in place using a ½-inch seam allowance. The fabric strip should now measure 13"W × 96"L.
Step 2: Working on one of the strip's long sides and starting at a short end, use a ruler and a pencil to measure and mark one inch at a time; continue until you reach the other end. Repeat on the opposite side of the strip. Next, using your ruler and our photo as a guide, draw a line at each mark, varying the line lengths. At each 16th mark, draw a line that crosses the entire strip. Trace over the lines using a black fabric marker, which dries almost instantly.
Step 3: Just left of each line that crosses the strip, and working in numerical order, center a six-inch-high number stencil. Affix with stencil adhesive.
Step 4: Using a foam stencil brush, fill in the stencil with fabric paint. Let dry about four hours. Remove stencils; if needed, touch up the numbers with a paintbrush. To clean the runner, wash by hand and hang dry.

DIY Thursday_ Vintage Doily Art

It seems like the doily is coming back with a vengeance - it is everywhere - Pinterest, blogs, Home DIY tutorials... and today on Worded Reflections.
After seeing a friend actually busy making this DIY yesterday I felt jealous that I haven't taken the time or initiative to make it for myself yet, I still think this is a beauty!

Photographic inspirations

My sister is busy doing a photography course at the Stellenbosch Academy of Design and Photography and I've decided to feature some of her work during this course to see her develop and grow into, what I hope to be, my very talented photo-journalist-blogger for Worded Reflections... This was me committing her for future posts in case you didn't notice.

Some of her work that she sent me_ I've given the titles, perhaps she will accept them as I propose:
