Progress report _ My life

Since I started writing Worded Reflections in 2011 my life has significantly changed. My career took an unplanned turn and I am now self employed, I became a mother of the most dearest, sweetest little boy in the entire universe, I invested in friendships and relationships that I did not ever expect to blossom in the way they are and my life in Joburg has become so rooted that I cannot imagine being anywhere else in the world. One constant that I cannot neglect to mention is my husband, my one and only, my most favouritist man.

As I am approaching this return to blogging as an entirely new adventure, I will over the next few weeks be introducing myself, my life and my work to you in a series of progress reports. For those of you familiar with these aspects of me, have a bit of patience.

Architect, wife, mother, friend, homemaker, designer, self-proclaimed cook and lover of everything beautiful, interesting, simple and nice. Worded Reflections is a melting pot of bits and pieces of me and things that I like, do, love, long for and dream of. Worded Reflections is me on a page.

Well, hello again!

After a very long silence I have decided to return to my beloved blog, how I've missed  you!

In my previous post, written almost 8 months ago, I said that I was unsure about the purpose of Worded Reflections and that I needed to figure out exactly why I was blogging.

Well, I'm back and I think I've figured it out.. when I started Worded Reflections I wanted it to be a blog that reflects me on a page. I wanted to have a platform to write and creatively express my likes, wants, desires as well as journal a bit of my everyday life.

So this is exactly what I am going to do! My life as a wife, mother, architect, friend, cook, designer and creative is full and busy and wonderful, so why not just capture this!?

Some of you might not be interested, some of you might find this purpose silly, but some of you just might want to join me on this journey, see a bit of my everyday life and take a peek into how I balance (or juggle) this wonderful, glorious, exciting adventure I call life...

I invite you all on my new Worded Reflections adventure!

Here's to new beginnings.

To cut or not to cut

It seems I have fallen victim to the mommy-chop!

My friends often joke about it when someone makes a drastic hairstyle change shortly after a big event in their lives - you get the I-just-got-married-what-now, the I-lost-a-lot-of-weight and the mommy-chop amongst others.

Well as the title clearly explains - the mommy-chop is when a new mother makes a drastic hair change.. and this is exactly what I did yesterday! I when short!

Some pics for inspiration included:

I am feeling rather refreshed and ready for the new season that has also just begun.
Will you be making a hairstyle change this season? Be it the mommy- or the I-just-felt-like-it chop!?

Learning a new dance

After my extended absence from my, what used to be, normal life I am focusing on a new dance. Currently I am busy figuring out how to juggle work, life, family and love in a balanced manner and  one of my main aims is to get a decent grasp on my work again. What started out as stolen moments when Anton was napping or entertaining himself is now becoming a bigger part of my everyday again. At least I am working from home so although I am spending more and more time in front of my computer I do not feel like I am neglecting time with my precious son.

My work load is slowly picking up, but my main focus is currently on a residential project that is already under construction - a very exciting adventure for me and some close friends. I will post a bit more about this project soon.

For now, some inspiration for myself while I am learning the steps of this new dance I call life...

My latest addition

One of my latest additions for the house is this little porcelain wall mountable impala-head that I bought in Cape Town a while back...

I am yet to decide where I will hang this new friend, but I am sure it will be a pleasant addition to any room.

The Package Project 2011_ My package that I sent

I never posted my package that I sent off to Jenny Kellerman last year, but after the 2 write-ups that she posted on my package I thought I should post it for my readers to see too. See Jenny's posts on my package here: Package Project 2011 and Presenting close-ups.

I had so much fun putting the package together and will definitely do it again next year.

My package included the following:

A bottle of unfiltered olive oil from my parents' olive farm Kleinbergskloof in Stilbaai.
A Christmas stacking with a biscuit in it.
A very cute little Zebra pin from a local craft market
A golden necklace / bracelet from a local craft market
A colourful tea-towel from Woolworths.
Some yummy biscuits and sachets of hot chocolate for a pause-moment
Lovely Luminaries from The Selection

Unfortunately the package that I was meant to receive never arrived :(, sometimes the post systems just aren't reliable.

Counting down the sleeps

For those of you that know me, you already know that I LOVE birthdays, for those of you that don't you will find out soon enough... As this is my birthday month and week, I've decided to dedicate this week to, well, ME...

Counting down the sleeps is a great way to be in the right spirit all week long, so I've done just this  - made myself a little "count-down-calendar" for the week... yes yes I know I am getting too old for this, but I can't help it!!

Only 5 sleeps to go!!!

Not like I am planning to get myself a birthday cake this year, but if I was I would definitely consider some of these yummy ideas and designs:

Breakfast in bed idea:

Is this 14 layer cake making your mouth water?

A good old fashioned chocolate cake will do just fine!

Rainbow cake? Not so sure about this one.

Red Velvet - YES PLEASE!!
