Headgear for the horses

While most of us here in South Africa were still recovering from the April Madness, celebs and socialites in the US attended the 2012 Kentucky Derby this past weekend. I love the horses! Not really the racing itself, more the dressing-up and the headgear!!

DIY Thursday_ Style me up

As mentioned earlier we will be celebrating my sister's wedding this weekend! Whooooop!!
The husband and I will be traveling to beautiful Stellenbosch tonight and I am eagerly trying to lock down on all that needed to be done this week so that I can enjoy a few days off.

As I am one of the bridesmaids for this weekend's affair a fair bit of organising also went into our dresses, shoes and accessories, but we are yet to decide exactly what we will do with our hair... so in spirit of this conversation (to be continued through DIY experimentation) I am compiling today's post.

Here are some great DIY hair tutorials that I found on the web, I will let you know if we decide to try any of these:

I really like this side bun!

Alternatively we can always just go to Pinterest for some inspiration - although I do not have my own Pinterest boards anymore doesn't mean I do not still use it for inspiration...

Hello Weekend!

For an early taste of the weekend we went out for a lovely birthday  dinner to Voodoo Lilly Cafe, Illovo, last night - what a great restaurant! The food was amazing, a definite spot worth visiting if you are in the Jo'burg surrounds!

So what do you have planned for this weekend? April is known to be one of the busiest months of the year and as it is a hot month for weddings I am happy to report this will be the only weekend this month that we do not have a wedding to attend - we are off to the farm YAY!!

Next weekend however, I will be walking down the isle as my dear sister's bridesmaid... happiness that the day is almost here!

Wishing you a happy, warm and fun weekend! Always remember:

I am off to celebrate my mother-in-law's birthday and it is going to be a weekend-long family affair...not as relaxed as I would've preferred it, but it will be nice to see family and friends from far! The highlight for me is that little Paul Roux will also be attending the celebrations... whoop! The little man is growing up so fast!

So what are you up to this weekend? I am spending the weekend home alone as the husband is off to Cape Town until Wednesday.

I will probably spend a few hours in front of my trusty friend the computer and also aim to make headway in my latest DIY project, my wall gallery, this is where I am at now:

I've painted all my old frames white in order to create unity.

A night out in Newtown

What a lovely weekend! We started our weekend with an amazing underground dinner at the Turbine Hall in Newtown, the newly established cultural hub of Johannesburg, to celebrate the lovely Carina's birthday.

Here are some pics of the evening but for those of you that have not been to this venue it is an outing I can definitely recommend! What a spoil!

The converted power station still stands proud as an integral part of Johannesburg's industrial and a architectural history.

Don't even get me started on the amazing food!!

Risotto with baby leek,  forest mushrooms and grilled Artichokes

Slow roasted lamb shank with sherry and thyme.

Berries, chocolates, cherries and champagne!

Here is a great video by Tyme Photography that captures the essence of the Underground Dinner perfectly!

Thanks to Carina for organising such a wonderful night out!
Also a special thanks to Suzie for the images used in this blog post today!

Fabulous Friday

Its one of those days where I woke up with a smile on my face and I don't think it will be too easy to wipe it off. The fact that it is Friday and I have a very exciting weekend ahead of me definitely fuels my good mood!
What are you doing this weekend? I am kick starting my weekend at the Johannesburg WineX tonight. Tomorrow I am going for breakfast to celebrate a special friend's birthday at Burnside's Restaurant and then I hop on a bus with 12 friends on route to the Kings of Leon show - Yay! Sunday we will finish this fun filled weekend with a loooong, lazy Sunday lunch to celebrate another special lady's birthday at Koi in Rosebank.

So there you have it, I have a busy and eventful weekend ahead of me! But as one should live for today and not worry too much about tomorrow I am wishing you a Fabulous Friday!

2 Weekends rolled into one

So its been a week since my last post and all I can say is that I have had the most amazing week! Tossed around in a whirlwind of travels - between Jo'burg, Cape Town and Nairobi, Kenya - amongst various cultures and traditions, and yet today I quite comfortably slid right back into my normal day at the office. Like I never left.

I promise to share some visuals on my travels next week, but for today I'm only doing a quick post to say hello and to wish you all a happy weekend!

What are you up to this weekend? I am looking forward to finally go to the neighbourgoodsmarket, celebrating a friend's birthday, visiting my ouma (grandmother) and to spending time at my home and in my garden.

Wishing you all a happy and sunny weekend! xoxo

I have another quick visit to the family in the Cape to look forward to, a lovely Wellington wedding and then on Monday a trip to Kenya awaits and even if this trip will be for work I am sure the break will feel a bit like a holiday.

Good finds for the week includes the following:

Ever wondered what English sounds like to foreigner? Look at this video that captures this in a bizarre manner.
Traditional on the one side, contemporary on the other: Villa Rotunda in the Netherlands... I could live here!
For some nice, local talent have a look at Foss Furniture.
For those keen for a weekend cooking adventure look at PunchFork for some amazing, yummy treats.

Quote of the week:

Wishing you all a happy weekend filled with more laughs than tears, more sunshine than rain and more chocolate sweets than sour disappointment!

A weekend affair in Cradock

As mentioned yesterday I spent the past (extended) weekend in Cradock, a small town in the Eastern Cape. The main reason for this trip was because the husband was participating in the Fish River Canoe Marathon and it had nothing to do with it being my birthday...but WOW was I pleasantly surprised!

This small little town came alive with thousands of people traveling from all over South Africa and was ready and waiting when the numbers descended on it. We were fortunate enough to stay in a very nice guesthouse De Oude Pastorie - here we were greeted by a friendly host and excellent service.

Here are some photos of the weekend:

The Dutch Reformed Church in Cradock

Local Business Men displaying their goods

The beautiful street facades left me in awe!
The boys; all smiles after the race.
Jacobus getting his hair cut at a local salon

Driving home - my view of the beautiful Karoo (Boats on the car roof)

These are just a few snapshots of a very eventfull weekend and all I can say is:
Cradock we'll see you in a year!
